Backstage View

NOTE: Because of the transitory nature of theatre, construction materials used are often discarded to a landfill immediately after the show ends. We're trying to minimize our environmental impact by starting with as much reclaimed material as possible, then reusing scenery and materials, and finally recycling whatever we can.

We provide the community access to theatre regardless of their ability to pay, through our "donation only, pay what you will" performances, every Thursday the show is open.

Giving goes two ways. On one hand, the future of any theatre company depends on its ability to build a following of people who can donate to the arts. However, it's no less important for us to be clear on what we offer that community in return.

We believe that theatre belongs to everyone. Art is part of our heritage as human beings, and theatre is arguably the oldest art we know. It's entertainment, it's fun, it's interesting. It's also holy, powerful and transforming. For these reasons, Lunacy Stageworks is dedicated to...

  • Telling stories that resonate with our humanity, whether they're light or dark, funny or sad, ancient or contemporary. (See Productions.)
  • Offering everyday people ways to break into art for the first time and claim it as their own. (See Education and Special Events.)
  • Building a company that can pay trained artists to do what they love, leaving the dayjobs behind.

Theatre has the potential to bring a community together. It's the intersection of many artists uniting their skills for a common purpose. Even after the final touches are done, a production isn't real until there's an audience to see it, feel it, be affected by it.

In a world that asks us to isolate, theatre challenges us to engage.

That's where you come in.

Open Hands

Your donation grants us space in which to rehearse and a stage on which to perform - not to mention costumes, props, technical supplies - in short, everything we use both onstage and backstage. It enables us to offer hands-on theatre workshops to children and adults, it pays our cast and crew, and it allows us to fulfill our mission.

Many Thanks to...
